What personal data we collect and why we collect it

(Cactus Dreams note: I use wordpress.org software for this blog/website.  Blog and website is used interchangeably and refers to CactusDreams.com site.  The next section below is written by wordpress and explains how private information is used on the website.  Since we design items for POD sales on Merch Amazon, Zazzle and other websites, see Additional Information at the bottom for paragraphs not written by wordpress for additional Cactus Dreams privacy policy information and links to privacy policies at Amazon, Zazzle or other sites we may sell our designs on)

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics  (this next section, some paragraphs are written by WordPress but I’ve added CactusDreams notes in bold)

How long we retain your data (WordPress)

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data (WordPress)

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. (Note from Cactus Dreams: WordPress has an export button for personal data now but I can only create the file according to their specifications.  So any data they did not capture, I cannot erase or give you.  And you will have to prove you are you before I give any data they can gather as I have concerns about a person who has no right to the data asking for the data of another person.  I will ask you 3 questions based on the data that has been gathered about you should you ask for data or erasure.  Most of products are POD or affiliate and once you leave this site, their sites may collect data and you will have to check their site for their privacy policy.)

Where we send your data (WordPress)

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.  (Note from Cactus Dreams: However, I personally moderate all comments and have no spam detection on so this should not happen.)

Additional information

Cactus Dreams uses WordPress.org (Privacy Policy) to track and measure traffic on our CactusDreams.com using cookies (definition of cookies). This is done so that we can improve the quality of our blog and online store and see what interests viewers most. Also with likes and/or comments, if I receive the viewer’s blog info, I am likely to return a visit to read, like or comment one of their posts. You can turn off the use of cookies at anytime on your own device by changing your specific browser settings (WikiHow Instructions for Disabling Cookies).

Comments left on our website do not require a name and email address. However, all comments are moderated and anonymous comments might not be approved due to appearing to be spam or unable to determine whether it is left by a legitimate visitor.

With the exception of our “Contact Us” page through which readers/visitors voluntarily provide their names and email addresses so that we may answer questions via email, we neither collect nor store this type of information collected via the website.

Our virtual store

We host a virtual store on this site. Since I design and sell my things by POD (purchase on demand), when you click on a link, it takes you to the POD site like Merch Amazon or Zazzle so mostly any data is collected and covered by them.  See their individual section below.

We use WooCommerce plugin to create our online store.  While we show a product image and write the product description, when you click on the link it will take you to the POD vendor who manufactures the product.  I earn designer commissions whether you use the link from my store or directly at the POD vendor.  Where possible in my store I use affiliate links because they are direct links to the products I’ve designed (or in my friend’s section, the products they’ve made or designed) and I usually earn a little affiliate commission on top of my designer commission. Because you actually buy the product through the POD vendor like Merch Amazon who manufactures it, we don’t collect your information at our store site to buy the product.  See Amazon or Zazzle below for their privacy policies.  If or when I sell products directly, there will be a privacy policy section on direct products.  At this time since inception, there is no direct sales from this website.

Amazon: Merch by Amazon (POD t-shirts and hoodies) and Amazon Services LLC Associates (affiliate) Programs. Amazon affiliate disclosure in the words required by Amazon, “We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.”Please refer to Amazon’s privacy policies regarding the collection and use of your search history on their site and your credit card information used on their site as we cannot access that information either through our site or our affiliate account. Any activity on the Amazon site is ]between Amazon and individual customers.  We can see which and how many products using the links were purchased or returned.  If you continue to browse on the Amazon site beyond the link to our product used to reach the Amazon site initially, how many clicks is recorded but not what product was clicked on unless the product was bought within the same shopping session if you use our Cactus Dream affliliate link to reach Amazon.  If you go directly to Amazon to buy the Cactus Dreams designed product without using our store link, we can only see which Cactus Dreams products were bought and no other products and no click totals.

Zazzle: We have items designed by Cactus Dreams and/or Cactus Catz sold by Zazzle.com under Cactus Dreams or Cactus Catz. We are also a Zazzle affiliate so if you use one of our links to Zazzle we get an additional affiliate commission.  If you go directly to Zazzle to buy the Cactus Dreams/Cactus Catz designed product, we receive the a designer commission. Here is a link to Zazzle’s Privacy Policy. We are able to see what items are purchased, how many clicks are items received, and which items were returned.  We cannot see who bought the item, their email or any other information about the buyer.  See Zazzle’s policy regarding the collection and use of your search history on their site and your credit card information used on their site as we cannot access that information either through our site or our affiliate account.
